Fox Terrier

About Fox Terrier Dog Breed:

There are two types of Fox Terrier the Smooth and the Wire. Ancestors of Smooth were the smooth coated black and tan Terrier, the Bull Terrier, the Greyhound and the Beagle. The Wire's major ancestor was the rough coated Black and Tan Terrier. Both share origins with the Airedale, Irish, and Welsh Terriers. Their most obvious difference, of course, is the coat. Both are predominantly white with black and tan areas.

Fox Terriers first made their mark in the eighteenth century when fox hunting became widespread in England. The smooth haired variety was intoduced to the general public at a Birmingham dog show in the early 1860s and quickly became a popular favourite. The wire haired variety which looks appropriately Victorian with its stylish whiskers made its debut a decade later.

As long as its human family is near, the dog will be happy. It is devoted, loyal and an excellent watch dog.
